Using Your Visio Drawing in Other Software

- PowerPoint, Word, Excel, E-mail and Others

There are two ways to use your Visio drawing in other software:

To copy part or all of the drawing and paste it to the editing file of the software. The drawing becomes part of the editing file, such as a PowerPoint presentation.
To link the drawing directly from within the software. The drawing is displayed with data from the original file.

To copy and paste a drawing:

Select the shapes to be copied. Choose menu Edit > Select All to select all shapes.
Click your editing file of the other software, such as a Word document, then choose menu Edit > Paste. The drawing shows.

To link a drawing:

Choose menu Insert > Object from the other software, such as Excel.
Choose Create From File.
Click Browse. Browse through different folders to find your drawing, such as MyDrawing.vsd.
Click Insert then OK. The entire drawing is loaded and displayed.

Tip: Change Page Size to Fit Your Drawing Contents:

Change your page size to fit the overall drawing content size so that it shows no extra blank space inside the editing file.

Sending Your Drawing via E-mail:

You can paste the drawing directly into your e-mail software, such as Outlook.
Alternatively, you can send the drawing as a regular file attachment. Remember to compress the drawing to make it small. Try Winzip. For a linked drawing, send the original drawing file as well.
