This low priced ID-TECH barcode reader can scan linear bar codes that are up to 3.2 inches wide from contact to about 1" away. The CCD scanner from ID TECH contains no moving parts, yet is lightweight and designed to fit comfortably in the hand for extended periods of usage. The CCD scan engine in this scanner can focus on smaller barcodes better than most lasers scanners and still read large barcodes. For example, the CCD imaging technology allows this scanner to read our Code 39 barcode font when printed as small as 6 points and as large as 28 points. The USB scanner is a good choice if your computer supports USB or if you have a laptop. This scanner does not have a sharp aiming beam like the laser scanners do. Scanner Focus:
This scanner read our Code 39 bar code font when printed as
small as 6 points and as large as 28 points as well as any size
between. This particular scanner will only read barcodes at
certain distances depending on how small or large they are.
Therefore, it is possible to be too close or too far from the
barcode to obtain a good scan. Barcodes are best read with this
scanner by holding the trigger button when the scanner is about
1 inch above the barcode and then move it to the barcode at any
rate of speed (fast or slow), and you will get a good and quick
scan every time. It should also be noted that this scanner does
not have a sharp aiming beam which is standard with a laser
scanner. If you don't mind these issues, you will be very happy
with the price and performance of this scanner.
Scanner Programming:
The manual provided with the scanner is good; it allows you to
program the scanner by just scanning barcodes in the manual.
The manual also comes with a big barcode on the front of it
labeled "default" and when you scan it all default settings are
enabled. When we received this scanner, all we did was plug it
into the USB port and scan the "default" barcode. We were
scanning barcodes within seconds. Also of importance, the
default settings set the minimum barcode scan length to 5, so
if you are scanning barcodes with 5 or less characters you have
to override this setting.
