The benefits of bar code wands include small size and the
ability to read long barcodes. However, barcode wands can be
more difficult to use than laser scanners or imagers. Wands
read barcodes by dragging the tip over the barcode slowly from
left to right at an angle and velocity recommended in the user
manual. The tip of the wand must stay on the barcode as you
drag it across to get a successful read, therefore, it is not
very good at reading very short barcodes of .25" or less in
height. Alternatively, a laser scanner such as the Metrologic USB Laser Scanner
reads the barcode instantly by positioning it over the barcode
and pulling the trigger. If the wand is not the best product
