Building a New ChoiceResults Model

The are steps involved in building and analyzing the model. Typically
for a large and complex decision this is done in a workshop setting
and the ChoiceResults Brainstorm whiteboard is used to organize the
goal and criteria, rate the model and analyze the results.

Steps:

Identify the goal

Brainstorm the criteria

Organize the criteria into like objectives

Identify the alternatives

Rate the criteria and alternatives

Analyze the results

1. Identify the Goal

The first step in building a model is to identify the decision that is
being made such as "Select Information System", "Select Data
Migration Vendor", etc. The goal is then added to the model using
the brainstorm whiteboard.

2. Brainstorm the Criteria

Add the criteria that is used to affect the decision is identified and
placed on the brainstorm whiteboard.

3. Organize the Criteria into Like Objectives

Organize the criteria into similar objectives by graphically connecting
a criterion to a parent criteria (objective) or the goal. As the
hierarchy is established by organizing the criteria the hierarchy tab
view changes to reflect the relationships.

You can also establish the hierarchy or modify the hierarchy using the
promote and demote buttons on the hierarchy tree view.
You can edit the existing objects, change their location, size, collapse
branches for clarity and so forth. See Brainstorm for details on how
to edit the hierarchy and whiteboard graphics.

4. Identify the Alternatives

Identify the different solutions or alternatives that are being decided.
This can be done at anytime while you are building the model.

You can mange the alternative (make them active or inactive) by
right-clicking in the alternative list and displaying the alternative
manager. Using the alternative manager alternatives can be made
active in the decision or inactive (excluded from the decision).

5. Rate the Criteria and Alternatives

The criteria and alternatives are rated. When all of the ratings have
been completed the results are automatically calculated. See Rate the
Criteria and Alternatives for details.

6. Analyze the Results

The results are calculated once all of the ratings have been
completed. The results can be analyzed and the weights of the
criteria can be changed in order to understand the sensitivity of each
criterion to the results. See Analyze the Results for details.
